		<abstract>The preliminary multispectral cloud classification method is used to identify the main cloud types over Brazil. The discrimination is obtained by a thresholding procedure using the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (A VHRR) data. The method includes calibrated radiances, radiative temperatures, differences between channels and spatial coherence. The results show an agreement with synoptic observations.</abstract>
